Our Approach to Privacy

Glidesmith is built so that your recordings stay yours. The desktop application records, edits and exports entirely on your Mac: it does not upload your recordings, require an account, or run analytics inside the app. This policy explains how the application behaves and what limited data our website collects.

The Glidesmith Application

Capture, compositing and encoding all happen locally. The application does not collect or transmit:

• Your recordings, audio, or exported videos
• The characters you type
• File names, paths, or contents
• Usage analytics or telemetry
• Automatic crash reports
• Advertising or marketing data

The application makes two kinds of network request. When you activate or validate a licence, it sends your licence key and a label for your Mac to Polar.sh, our payment and licensing provider. When it checks for updates, it downloads a small manifest that tells it the latest version. Neither request includes any recording, file, or usage data.

Permissions and Input Events

To record, Glidesmith asks macOS for Screen Recording access, and for Accessibility access so it can see where you click. It stores the position and timing of mouse clicks, the cursor path, and the state of modifier keys (such as Command or Shift) alongside your recording, on your Mac, to place zooms and shortcut callouts. It never records the characters you type. The event log cannot reconstruct typed text, including passwords typed while recording. Microphone access is requested only if you choose to record your voice.

Website Data

This website (glidesmith.com) may use basic analytics (Google Analytics) to understand visitor traffic. When you download the app or follow a link to checkout, our server records the event with your approximate location (derived from your IP address using ipinfo.io), your browser and device type, and the page that referred you. IP addresses are stored hashed for counting, and in raw form for abuse prevention and location lookup. We use this information in aggregate to understand where Glidesmith is used. We do not use advertising trackers, retargeting pixels, or third-party marketing tools.

Contact Form

If you contact us through our contact form, we collect only the information you voluntarily provide (name, email, message). It is delivered to our support inbox by email and used solely to respond to your inquiry. It is never shared with third parties.

Purchases

Licences are sold through Polar.sh, which acts as merchant of record. Polar collects the payment and billing details needed to process your order and issue your licence key, under its own privacy policy. We never see your full payment card details.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
